Sea and fiord, forests and moorlands… and so much more
From the white sandy beaches of the North Sea to the soft hills of the Limfjord nature welcomes you. A ride through the beautiful and contrasting countryside reveals an immense natural diversity, including sea and fiord, forests and moorlands and more special natural environments such as tidal meadows and marshes, fresh water meadows and pasture commons.

Storå winds its way through the municipality of Holstebro and like the smaller streams and the lakes of the area it offers magnificent nature experiences. Surrounded by extensive areas of heather, oak thickets and conifer plantations Denmark’s largest moorland lake, Flyndersø, is an impressive sight. The tidal meadows Geddal Strandenge by the Limfjord and Nissum Fjord are home to abundant bird life. Nissum Fjord is on the bird migration route along the west coast, and the fiord is designated a wildlife preserve in order to protect resting and breeding water birds.

Explore the wide open spaces and the deep silence of nature in one of the many plantations of the municipality. They have a rich and varied vegetation, including forest and heather moor, spruce and pine, beech and oak. Depending on the season, you can find different kinds of flowers, berries and mushrooms. In many plantations, you will also find exciting and challenging forest playgrounds. Bring your family on a canoe trip down the Storå. More open-air activities.

The various plantations and nature areas owned by the municipality are open to the public, and so are many of the privately owned nature areas.
