Swim Safely

A swim along the beautiful and clean beaches of Western Jutland is a wonderful experience. However, we do have some simple swimming advice for you and your family to follow:

Enjoy the white beaches along the North Sea coast
Children should only swim in the company of adults because the North Sea can sometimes get very deep quickly. Don’t let the children go out any further than when the water covers their belly button. And for both children and adults: swim alongside the coast – never outwards.

It is not allowed to swim in harbours, by piers, near breakwater and close to pound net poles. Inflatable mattresses and water toys require caution because they can drift out to sea quickly. It is best to tether them to something. If you loose a large inflatable water toy or a mattress to the sea, you should call the police to avoid starting an unnecessary rescue operation.

Look out for the sign on the beach

The sign with the beach number is placed at the foot of the sand dune or at some other place where it is visible from the beach. The sign always has a letter and a number.

If an accident happens

If a swimming accident or other accidents happen on the beach: call the emergency dispatch centre on phone no. 112.

Start by telling them what has happened and where you are. On most beaches you can find a beach number on a sign or stand. Tell the emergency dispatch centre the beach number and stay by the phone until they understand your message. The police and rescue service know the location of the beach sign, and they can quickly send a rescue crew to the exact location of the accident.

Notice that you are not necessarily being connected to the closets emergency dispatch centre if you call 112 from a cell phone, so it is very important that you can give the exact location of the accident, e.g. by telling them the beach number.

Be considerate on the beach

Other people on the beach may be bothered by noise from your vehicles and radios, your kite flying or garbage that you leave behind. Your loose dog can also be very bothersome, so it must always be on a leash.
