The Vinderup District – splendid nature and living history In the Vinderup District, you’ll discover a magnificent countryside full of opportunities. Historically, the Vinderup landscape goes back to the Ice Age, and you’ll find cultural and historical sights, which bring history alive.
A pearl of history and cultural heritage, the open air museum of Hjerl Hede is set in stunning natural surroundings. The museum illustrates the development of the Danish village from the 16th through the 19th century. Here you can experience history in an authentic setting, including different workshops, a bakery, a steam sawmill, a Stone Age settlement and much more. Children as well as adults are more than welcome to have fun at our historical playground, where you’ll find, among other things, velocipedes and stilts. The many churches in the Vinderup District are well worth a visit. A special treasure is to be seen in the Church of Sahl, namely the Golden Altar, which is unique in Denmark. The church was built around year 1150 and it was the main church of the district during the Middle Ages.

We have excellent and family-friendly beaches, Geddal Strandenge (tidal meadows) with a rich and varied bird and plant life, large areas of almost untouched moorland and the peace and quiet of the woods.
Stubbergård Sø and Flyndersø are both situated in an old ice age tunnel valley. Flyndersø is Denmark’s largest moorland lake surrounded by extensive areas of heather, oak thickets and conifer plantations.
In the magnificent landscape of Stubbergård Sø, you’ll find Stubber Klosterruin, the ruins of a Cistercian convent from the 13th century.

Another possibility, if you are looking for peace and quiet, is to rent a horse and wagon and enjoy nature at a leisurely pace. The beautiful countryside invites you to go hiking or biking. These are excellent ways to experience the varied environments and rural village communities, which are characteristic of the Vinderup District.
